Suga Sisters was founded in May 2021 by Krystal Swiercz. Krystal is a Northeast Arkansas Native born and raised in Osceola. Krystal has had a love for baking since her early childhood as she learned the basics of baking from her great grandmother “Big Momma” Annie Riley as early as 3 years old. Big Momma was the family matriarch and Krystal’s caregiver during the summers. Together they would bake everything from fresh buttermilk biscuits to fresh, homemade coconut cake. She remembers helping Big Momma crack open fresh coconuts to get to the meat and milk to use in her cakes, making fresh butter for the batter and using a coffee cup as her measuring tool. Big Momma passed when Krystal was only 8 years old, but she had already sparked a gift in her that would be the foundation for her success.

Krystal graduated high school and moved to Conway, Arkansas where she attended University of Central Arkansas and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. From there she went on to work at UAMS-Little Rock as an Oncology Nurse. It was during her time at UAMS that Krystal rekindled her passion for baking. She began baking all the sweets for the weekend night shift potlucks and then decided she didn’t just want her cakes to taste good…she wanted them to look amazing. In May 2008 she enrolled in the local cake decorating classes at Hobby Lobby. She quickly figured out that she wanted more than a buttercream rosette or fine detailed royal icing on her cakes, so to You-Tube she went. This opened her eyes to a vast array of recipes and techniques which over time she has cultivated into her own style.

So, how do we go from being a hobby baker and RN for 16 years to a full-time cake designer…a pandemic is how. After a year of juggling her career as a nurse, a newborn, and virtual learning Krystal did what any God trusting Mother would do; she let go and let God. Walking away from her nursing career was not an easy decision by far, but walking in God’s Purpose for your life, well that can be just as trying. She knew the financial impact it would have on her family, but she would trust God. God’s voice is easier to hear when you are still. As Krystal struggled with the idea of how to help her husband provide for their daughters, she decided she can bake from home to supplement her income. Little did she know, she would be busier than she could ever imagine. As far as the name Suga Sisters it’s an homage to her two sweet daughters Rileigh(11) and Olivia (3).

Sometimes when I need a miracle,

I look at my daughters and realize

I have two.
